Hybrid Fibre and Copper

Hybrid copper and fibre cables are increasingly used in power and communications applications for several compelling reasons:

  1. Versatility: Hybrid cables combine fibre optics for high-speed data transmission with copper for power supply and traditional communications. This versatility allows a single cable to handle multiple functions, simplifying installation and reducing the need for separate cables.

  2. Cost Efficiency: By using hybrid cables, you can save on installation and maintenance costs. This approach minimizes the number of individual cables needed, which can reduce both material costs and labor expenses associated with cable management.

  3. Enhanced Performance: Fibre optics offer high bandwidth and fast data transmission speeds, while copper cables are often used for power delivery or short-distance data communications. Hybrid cables leverage the strengths of both technologies to provide robust and reliable performance.

  4. Reduced Interference: Fibre optics are immune to electromagnetic interference, which can affect copper cables. By integrating fibre and copper, you can mitigate interference issues and ensure more stable and reliable communications.

  5. Simplified Infrastructure: Hybrid cables streamline infrastructure by consolidating power and data into a single cable. This simplifies network design and reduces the complexity of cable management, which is particularly beneficial in environments where space is limited.

  6. Future-Proofing: Using hybrid cables allows for easier upgrades and expansions. As technology advances, you can upgrade the fibre components without having to overhaul the entire infrastructure. This future-proofing can be crucial for adapting to new communication standards and increased data demands.

  7. Installation Efficiency: Hybrid cables can reduce the number of cable runs and pathways needed in a facility, making installation faster and more efficient. This is especially useful in complex environments like data centres, or industrial settings.

In summary, hybrid copper and fibre cables provide a versatile, cost-effective, and high-performance solution for integrating power and communications in a unified infrastructure. They simplify installation and maintenance while ensuring reliable and efficient operation.

Pictured below is a cable we designed for our client in Aquaculture who needed power and communications cabling run to a series of underwater camera systems. This cable features 2.5mm flex conductors for 230VAC power, together with a 12 core loose tube fibre for high speed communications. All housed in a poly sheath with kevlar filling for a durable, weatherproof finish.
